Fall has finally arrived in Macon!
For the past week, we've been picking up pecans - Daniel is a big help. The first night they started falling, David didn't get much sleep because they are quite heavy and make quite a "thwack" when hitting the rooftop, rolling down, and then "plunk" on the aluminum gutter, topped off by a "smack" when each one hits the ground! Whoa!

Our neighbor down the street who walks her dog past our house every day stopped and said she is going to give us her mother's famous recipe for pecan pie! Just imagine - making pecan pie with the pecans from our own yard... don't know why that seems so cool. After all, we had nut trees everywhere up in New York... guess you can't make pies with chestnuts and acorns though.
The leaves on our ginkgo trees have also decided to turn into a brilliant shade of orange-yellow. We had a former neighbor stop by and ask if she could clip a few small branches for her Thanksgiving table centerpiece. We felt honored.
One of the biggest changes with the season is the changing quality of the light - especially the change in the angle - it's much lower in the sky now at all hours of the day, which makes the sunlight stream in through the windows in our sunroom - that makes for a hotter room, even when compared to the 105-degree heat of the Summer (believe it or not!). A big thing we've grown to appreciate down here is the sheer power of the sun's rays - when the sun goes behind a cloud, you notice it instantly!

Happy Thanksgiving to our family and friends back home! We miss you guys!
