David ordered six yards of topsoil to form the basis of a garden in the front of our house. The soil will be shaped around the large Yoshino cherry tree and will be home to bulbs, hostas, and annuals. Currently, the roots of the tree are above-ground and make mowing difficult (and growing of grass or anything impossible).

Here's a pic of a hedge that runs alongside our driveway - it decided to flower, in December! Bonus points to anyone who can tell us what it is! We have a lot to learn about Southern gardening.

Macon is the cherry blossom capital of the world - they have over 300,000 cherry trees within the city limits. In preparation for the Spring festival (<-- click), the organizers gave away tree seedlings yesterday morning. David and Danny got up early and received 5 cherry trees for their efforts. One of them is shown below, planted in Lexi's garden next to her lilac tree! It's not much right now, but it does have buds lining its length - already!
Stay tuned for pics of the finished garden!
