Duck Stalker!

Go, Duckies, Go!!

Today we headed to the banks of Macon's Ocmulgee River for the first annual "Rubber Duck Derby and Children's Festival", a fundraising event for a local child abuse prevention organization. The day was sweltering, but we had to go and see what 10,0000 ducks floating down the river looked like! Everyone bought a duck for $5, and the first duck across the finish line won a prize!

Danny was caught up in the excitement, as firetrucks sprayed water into the Ocmulgee to create a wave for the ducks to ride. We stood right under the bridge as all of the ducks were dumped over the side. As soon as they hit the water, about a quarter of them decided to float the opposite way, away from the finish line. I couldn't see the numbers, but I'm sure that it was our duck right in front that was leading the pack the wrong way!

The festival's mascot, a man in a giant duck costume, was also walking around and entertaining the kids. Since it was over 100 degrees, I couldn't imagine how hot that poor guy was. At first Daniel was a little wary of "Ducky," but after a few hugs and high-fives, Danny decided he was his new best friend! It was so cute, wherever the big duck went, my little baby Danny duck followed right behind.

People thought it was adorable, and "Ducky" got a kick out of it, too ....until he tried to sneak away for a break. The poor guy was trying to lose his little "stalker duck," but just couldn't shake him. Mommy had to hold Daniel back while the poor, hot "Ducky" hopped on a golf cart and sped away for a much needed water break. Even as the cart was pulling away, Daniel was calling out to his new best friend, and blowing kisses.

Danny was a little sad to see his new friend go, but a kiss from Mommy and a new duck balloon perked him up!
