I like mustard on my Rochester red hot!
We ended our week with the Rochester event closest to our hearts- the annual Dachshund Festival and Parade! Five years ago at the first Hotdog fest, there were only a dozen of us weenie lovers to celebrate. Every year more and more people and dogs have attended, and this year there were more than 500 weenies and people celebrating "the long dog with a BIG heart!"

The Biek boys getting some hot doggie love
We had kept our trip to NY a surprise to our really good friends (and fellow dachshund lovers) Jim and Lori. We had picked up a flower for Danny to give Lori, so we sent him toddling over to her, flower in hand. You should have seen their faces when they realized that it was Danny! What a wonderful surprise!

Danny and Mommy checking out the "Weenie-ganza!"

Daniel's shirt says, "My weiner does tricks" He had so many people cracking up!

How's he do that? A hot dog on wheels?
This little guy's name is Jymbo. He suffered the same back injury as our Shadow, but unfortunately he didn't regain the use of his legs like 'Tato did. His disability hasn't slowed this spunky dog down, though! We met Jymbo at last year's festival.

Angel, David, Danny...and a little Jymbo on wheels snuck in the picture!
Since Oscar stayed at home in Georgia for our trip, this was the first year we came sans-weenies! Lori and Jim were very happy to let Danny walk Jazzy and Cody in the parade.

It was a little sad not having Shadow, Oscar and Hershey walk in the parade with us this year. I teared up a little when I saw a little fat black and tan girl that looked just like Shadow. We'll always have 'Tato Girl and Hershey-doo in our hearts. Whenever I got sad, I make sure to pull Oscar in my lap and give him extra belly rubs. When Daniel sees this, he gets jealous and wants baby belly rubs, too!

There's nothing better than rubbin' a dachshund belly!
Jasmine and Cody getting love and rubs.

"The Dach-song"
There's no other dog like a dachshund,
Walking so close to the ground,
They're stubborn and sly as a fox and
The happiest pet to be found.
Dachsie, meine dachsie,
The best canine under the sun,
Call you "wiener" or "sausage" or "hotdog",
We know that you're number one.
Most kinds of dogs seem to either
Have shapes or proportions all wrong;
They're only one way or the other,
But dachshunds are both short and long.
Dachsie, meine dachsie,
The best canine under the sun,
Call you "wiener" or "sausage" or "hotdog",
We know that you're number one.
This was the perfect ending to our New York trip! Lori and Jim, we hope you enjoyed your surprise!
