Mr. Level 2!

So far, every few hours, we get different news, and it's been all good so far. Last night, we were told that Jason might not leave the NICU until after Christmas and that it would take a bit of time just to wean him off of the high-flow 100 percent oxygen cannula. Angel saw him for the first time last night from 11:oo until well after 1am, but couldn't hold him. So, that's what we went to bed believing.

This morning, we hear that the nurse started to wean him off the oxygen support and somehow Jason was doing so well, that he no longer needed oxygen - out went the cannula, and he's been on room air since 8am, 6 hours after we heard this would be a weeks-long process! We also heard back (after a 3rd chest x-ray early this morning) that the pneumothorax had resolved on its own and there was no need for a chest tube! huh? And then, they tell Angel to come to the NICU so she can hold him. NUTS! We see him for about an hour, go back to our room, and then find out that Mr. Jason has been upgraded and consequently evicted from the acute portion of the NICU. He's now in the Level II nursery where we were happy to visit him just awhile back and notice that the nurses handle him a little rougher (we take this as a good sign). He was sleeping peacefully in Angel's arms the whole time, and took an ounce or so of his first formula (they told Angel she can't try breastfeeding until tomorrow).

Phew! And now for some pics! Thank you to everyone for your well-wishes!

David & Angel, that's the best news I've heard in weeks! Obviously Jason's made of pretty stout stuff! Thanks for the update.
